Bill was a real champion of the high school athlete for it gave him such joy as a young man and he eternally cheered his teammates on when they became down and they loved him for it. He was captain of the football team, a hurdler in track, a reserve basketball player and a Daily News Record winner of an award for Good Sportsmanship.
From their Dad, his seven daughters learned that, in sports as in life, one can do everything right and lose. On the contrary, one can fall short of a best effort and eke out a win. In all of this, what is important is a self assessment of one's own contribution to the outcome.
The Bill Blose Memorial Scholarship was established in 2004 by his family with support from Old Dominion Realty and administered by the Rockingham Education Foundation to recognize a Spotswood High School senior student athlete. Applicants must demonstrate athletic achievement, academic achievement, financial need, initiative, character and a required essay entitled, “How Sports Have Prepared Me for Life”.
