*NOTE:  some scholarships may require recommendations from specific individuals (specific teacher, coach, community member, club leader, etc.). If one of the two required letters you submit from the person listed/named, an additional letter is not needed.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR ALL RCPS HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

 ☐   ​Ed Long, Jr. Family Career and Technical Education Scholarship $1,000 
Applicant must plan to attend Virginia Tech or Blue Ridge Community College for the Virginia Tech transfer program. Applicants must complete a 2-year sequence of a vocational technical program, preferably in one of the following fields: agriculture, business, family and consumer sciences, marketing, technology education, or trade and industrial education. 

☐    Bridgewater Retirement Community Nursing Scholarship $1,000 
Applicant must have an interest in the nursing field. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Priority is given to applicants who are children of Bridgewater Retirement Community’s employees and/or have a serious desire to work in the healthcare profession (such as CNA, LPN, RN, etc.).

☐    Frazier Quarry Scholarship $1,500 each (4 available)
Applicant must have been a member of the FFA or 4-H club for at least 2 years. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Applicant who plan to have a career in the agricultural field.  

☐    Gail & Charles Lohr Scholarship $2,000    
Applicant must be pursuing continuing education in a vet tech, vet assistant, veterinarian program. Must be attending at least a two year program. Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.8. Applicants must demonstrate a genuine love and interest in animals, shown through their upbringing, history of animal care, and experience with animal ownership. Priority given to Broadway High School senior.

☐    Gary & Martha Dovel Memorial Music Scholarship $500
Applicant must have a plan to pursue further education in music. Applicant must have actively participated in a school music program, including band, chorus, or both, for at least four years and participated in a musical production and/or marching band. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and extracurricular/ athletic participation. 
*One recommendation letter from a music teacher

☐    Hill Scholarship for Vocational Excellence $1,250 each (4 available)
Applicant must have a plan to pursue a vocational, technical or trade career. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and have the desire to acquire the skills necessary to excel in their chosen occupation. This scholarship can be utilized for but not limited to:  tuition, books or training manuals, purchase of required tools or equipment, professional uniforms, or cost of certification or licensing exams)
*Additional essay: 1-page maximum explaining how this scholarship would be used to assist in achieving professional goals. 

☐    Hill Family Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers $1,500 each (2 available) 
Applicant who is interested in pursuing a career in education. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, citizenship, and extracurricular participation. 
*Additional essay: 1-3 page essay describing the desires to pursue continuing education and career in teaching. 

☐    Jerry Will Memorial Scholarship $1,000 each (2 available)
Applicant must have attended MTC and are currently working toward their certification or have received their certification in their chosen trade. Applicants must be continuing their education at a trade school. 

☐    Jerry Will Memorial Scholarship $500 each (2 available)
Applicant must have attended MTC and are currently working toward their certification or have received their certification in their chosen trade. Applicants can use these funds to purchase tools or equipment to work in their trade after graduation. 

☐    Luther Arliss & Helan W. Kirkpatrick Scholarship $1,000 each (2 available)
Applicant must demonstrate success through hard work and/or overcoming a hardship, financial need, and contribution to the school and/or larger community. 

☐    Matthew Privott Memorial Athletic Scholarship $1,000
Applicant must be a member of the football and/or wrestling team, with preference given to Turner Ashby High students. 
*One recommendation from a member of the direct coaching staff. 
*Additional essay: 500 words explaining their commitment and interest in the football/wrestling team’s overall effort, and how they have demonstrated hard work and having “heart” in that effort for the team. 

☐    Merck Senior Science Scholarship $2,500 each (2 available) 
Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, extracurricular participation, and citizenship/volunteerism. Applicants must be pursuing a degree in a STEM field. 

☐    Quota International of Harrisonburg Scholarship  $1,000 
Applicant must be planning to pursue an accredited course of study leading toward a degree, which will prepare them to work with hearing or speech impaired people OR be an individual with hearing or speech impairments who plans to continue education at an accredited college or university.

☐    Susan A. Cupp Memorial Scholarship $1,000 
Applicant must demonstrate that they have actively participated in volunteer and extracurricular activities that benefit the school and larger community. 

☐    Sue Yancey Family Scholarship $1,000 
Applicant who plans to pursue a career in education. Preference is given to East Rockingham and Spotswood High School students.  First priority based on merit and desire to become a teacher; second, based on financial need.
*Additional essay: 1-2 page essay explaining why the applicant desires to become a teacher. 

☐    Terra McPike Memorial Scholarship $500 
Applicant who plans to pursue a career in education. Priority given to planned Foreign Language Education majors.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR BROADWAY HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

☐    Brian “Bucky” Anderson Memorial HERO Scholarship $1,000 
Applicant must letter in football or wrestling their senior year, as a player, manager, or trainer, and have had challenges to overcome. Applicant must also have average academic standing with a 2.5 GPA or higher.
*Recommendation letter from teacher/coach
*Additional essay: 500 word essay on the topic of “Hero(s)”

☐    Carolyn Cook Memorial Scholarship for Future Educators $1,000
Applicant who is interested in pursuing education as a career. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, high moral character, and citizenship. Preference given to applicants with a strong passion for mathematics. 

☐    Clay L. Sellers Memorial Scholarship $1,000
Open to Broadway or Turner Ashby High School seniors. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, citizenship/volunteerism, and extracurricular participation. First priority will be given to students entering the firefighting field; second, a student entering the medical field. Preference will be given to any student who is a member of a volunteer fire/rescue agency.

☐    Daryl “Bruce” Ritchie Memorial Scholarship $5,000
Applicant who is interested in pursuing a four year degree in environmental science, biological science, veterinarian medicine or forest science management. 

☐    Destry Thomas Scholarship $500
Applicant must be a student athlete who participated in multiple sports for all 4 years of high school. Preference given to participants in softball, baseball, basketball and football. 
*Additional essay: minimum 500 essay explaining “how the sports program impacted your life”

☐    Ellen Bowman Rhodes Memorial Student-Athlete Scholarship $1,000 each (2 available)
Applicant who has lettered in at least one varsity sport. Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrate athletic participation and citizenship/volunteerism. 

☐    Jason Matthew Morris Memorial Scholarship $2,000 each (2 available)
Applicant who has aspirations of becoming a teacher. Applicant must demonstrate citizenship/volunteerism, extracurricular/athletic participation, and overall accomplishments. Priority is given to applicants who have lettered in at least one sport. Preference given to students with average academic standing (i.e., 2.5-3.0 GPA) and high aspirations of being successful. 

☐    Jesse Haviland Memorial Scholarship $500
Applicant who are actively involved in FFA and who demonstrate characteristics similar to how Jesse described himself (trustworthy, respectful and hardworking).

☐    Jessie C. Smith Memorial Scholarship $500
Applicant who is interested in pursuing education as a career goal. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular participation, and citizenship/volunteerism. Priority given to students identified with special needs. 

☐    Locust Point Farm Scholarship (4-year) $20,000
Applicant who plans to attend Virginia Tech and enter the College of Ag/Life Sciences. These funds may be used towards first year tuition, as well as on-campus room and board. This scholarship is renewable for a total of 4 years, if the recipient remains in good academic standing at the university and within chosen program.

☐    Locust Point Farm Scholarship (2-year) $4,320
Applicant who plans to attend a 2-year community college (with intent to transfer to an ag-related program in a 4-year institution) or a 2-year vocational or trade school program that would support an ag-related career (large equipment mechanics, welders, using drones and other technologies in ag, etc.). This scholarship is renewable for a total of 2 years, if the recipient remains in good academic standing and within chosen program.

☐    Louis Nagy, Jr. Student Athlete Scholarship $500
Applicant who has lettered in two sports during their senior year. Applicant must have a GPA 3.5 or higher and demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, both on the field and in the classroom. 
*One recommendation from a coach

☐    Matthew Allen Hottinger Memorial Athletic Scholarship $500
Applicant who has lettered in at least one sport. Priority given to players on the baseball team. Applicant must demonstrate athletic participation and achievement, academic achievement, financial need, citizenship, and extracurricular participation. 

☐    Norvell P Trumbo Memorial Scholarship $2,000
Applicant must demonstrate academic excellence (minimum 3.0 GPA), leadership through school and community involvement, and a passion for shaping the world around them. Preference is given to those pursuing studies in engineering or the construction industry.

☐    Slater Family Education or Technical/Trade/Service Scholarship $1,000-$2,500 (2 available)
Applicant who is pursuing either a profession in education, technical/trade or service industry.  The final scholarship amount ($1,000–$2,500) will be determined based on factors such as intended career field, academic performance, leadership or extracurricular involvement, family background in education or trades, personal hardship, and notable honors or achievements.
*Additional essay: 1-2 page essay written on “Who inspired you or why you chose the education or trade/technical/service career path”.

☐    Tanner Brooks Morris Memorial Teamwork Scholarship $500
Applicant must be a member of the football team. Applicant must exemplify teamwork, both on and off the field, and participate in school and community activities. Preference given to linemen. 
*One recommendation letter from a football coach

☐    Todd Lynn Memorial Baseball Scholarship $1,000
Applicant must be a member on the baseball team and previously participated in Broadway Community Little League. Applicant must exhibit qualities of leadership, teamwork, dedication and good sportsmanship. Applicant must be continuing education at a college, university, or trade/technical school or entering the workforce (funds can be used to purchase tools, equipment or certifications needed to begin their chosen career field). 
*Additional essay - 500 minimum word essay describing post high school goals and how baseball has influenced personal growth, character, and future plans. 

☐    Viola Ritchie Sager Memorial Scholarship $500
Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, citizenship, and financial need. Priority given to applicants with the following intended majors in the order they are listed: business education, business or economics, computer technology, or education.
