SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ALL RCPS HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
☐ Ed Long, Jr. Family Career and Technical Education Scholarship $1,000
Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who plan to attend Virginia Tech or Blue Ridge Community College for the Virginia Tech transfer program. Applicants must complete a 2-year sequence of a vocational technical program, preferably in one of the following fields: agriculture, business, family and consumer sciences, marketing, technology education, or trade and industrial education.
☐ Excel Rocktown Running Scholarship $1,500
Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who plan to pursue cross country or track & field at the collegiate level. Applicants must currently be a member of a cross country or a track & field team. Applicants must submit one letter of recommendation from a member of the direct coaching staff. Applicants must also submit a two page double-spaced essay on how running has supported your growth as a person and how you plan for running to continue serving you in the future.
☐ Bridgewater Retirement Community Nursing Scholarship $1,000
Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who have an interest in the nursing field. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Priority is given to applicants who are children of Bridgewater Retirement Community’s employees and have a serious desire to work in the healthcare profession.
☐ Frazier Quarry Scholarship $1,500 each
Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who have been a member of the FFA or 4-H club for at least 2 years. Four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded (2 females and 2 males). Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Priority given to applicants who plan a career in the agricultural field.
☐ Gary & Martha Dovel Memorial Music Scholarship $500
Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who plan to pursue further education in music. Applicant must have actively participated in a school music program, including band, chorus, or both, for at least four years and participated in a musical production and/or marching band. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and extracurricular/ athletic participation. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation from a music teacher and a short 500 word essay explaining why they should be considered for this scholarship.
☐ Hill Scholarship for Career Readiness $500 each
The Hill Scholarship for Career Readiness is a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to two students from Rockingham Academy. This is for seniors who plan to pursue a vocational, technical, or trade career. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and a strong interest in acquiring the additional skills and training needed to be successful in their chosen career field. Students will be recommended based on this criteria, and will be encouraged to write a brief statement explaining how the scholarship would be used to help you achieve success in your chosen career field. (Examples for use of this scholarship may include the following: tuition, books or training materials, purchase of required equipment or tools, professional uniforms, and the cost of certification or licensing manuals)

Four $1,250 scholarships to be awarded (one per high school, may be divided) to seniors who plan to pursue a vocational, technical or trade career. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and have the desire to acquire the skills necessary to excel in their chosen occupation. In addition to the required letter of recommendation from a teacher/school administrator, applicants must submit a brief statement (1-page maximum) explaining how the scholarship would be used to assist you in achieving your goals. (Examples for the use of this scholarship may include the following: tuition, books or training manuals, purchase of required tools or equipment, professional uniforms, and cost of certification or licensing exams).

Open to Rockingham County High School seniors interested in pursuing a career in education OR graduates of a Rockingham County high school who are currently student-teaching in a Rockingham County School. Two $1,500 scholarships to be awarded (may be divided). Applicant must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, citizenship, and extracurricular participation. 1-3 page essay required describing why the applicant desires to pursue a secondary degree and career in teaching.
☐ Jerry Will Memorial Scholarship $1,000 each
Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to Rockingham County High School seniors who attend MTC and are currently working toward their certification or have received their certification in their chosen trade. Applicants must be continuing their education at a trade school.

Two scholarship of $500 will be awarded to Rockingham County High School seniors who attend MTC and are currently working toward their certification or have received their certification in their chosen trade. Applicants can use these funds to purchase tools or equipment to work in their trade after graduation.
☐ Luther Arliss & Helan W. Kirkpatrick Scholarship $1,000 each
Open to Rockingham County High School seniors. Two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded (one to a female and one to a male). Applicant must demonstrate success through hard work and/or overcoming a hardship, financial need, scholarship, and contribution to the school and/or larger community.
☐ Matthew Privott Memorial Athletic Scholarship $1,000
Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who are on a football and/or wrestling team, with preference given to Turner Ashby High students. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation from a member of the direct coaching staff. Applicant must also submit a 500 words essay explaining their commitment and interest in the football/wrestling team’s overall effort, and how they have demonstrated hard work and having “heart” in that effort for the team.

Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who will be attending a four-year institution of higher education. Applicant must submit an additional 500-word essay on “The importance of the hospitality and tourism industry today and 10 years from now; and if you could change one thing to make the industry better, what would it be?"

One scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded annually to a Rockingham County High School senior. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Priority is given to either an individual with hearing or speech impairments who plans to enroll as a full-time student at an accredited college or university OR an individual who plans to be a full-time student pursuing an accredited course of study leading toward a degree, which will prepare them to work with hearing or speech impaired people.

Open to Rockingham County High School seniors. Applicant must demonstrate that they have actively participated in volunteer and extracurricular activities that benefit the school and larger community.

Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who plan to pursue a career in education. Preference is given to East Rockingham and Spotswood High School students. Essay required (maximum 2 pages) articulating why the applicant desires to become a teacher. First priority based on merit and desire to become a teacher; second, based on financial need.

Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who are pursuing a career in education. Priority given to announced Foreign Language Education majors.

Applicant must demonstrate commitment to volunteerism and community service, while also showing good citizenship/leadership qualities at school and in the community. High academic achievement and class rank are not a priority.

Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors planning to major in elementary or early childhood education and intending to teach at that level. Applicant should uphold the ideals of Rotary and “Service above Self.”
☐ Charles H. Deputy, Jr. Memorial Scholarship $500
Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors who plan to major in Agriculture/Dairy Science. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and the ability to work through and overcome challenges. Financial need will be a secondary consideration. Applicant must submit an essay (1-2 pages) articulating why he/she desires to be in the Agriculture Industry.

Open to Broadway or Turner Ashby High School seniors. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, citizenship/volunteerism, and extracurricular participation. Preference will be given to any student members of a volunteer fire/rescue agency. First priority will be given to students entering the firefighting field; second, a student entering the medical field.

Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, initiative, strong leadership skills, good character, and the “desire” to help others both in school and in the community. It is preferred that applicant be registered as an” organ donor”. Applicants must submit an essay (maximum 500 words) on "How they will advocate against, driving under the influence/and Distracted driving". Applicants must also submit an additional letter of recommendation from a community member.
☐ Joseph P. Hiney Fine Arts Scholarship $1,000
Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors who have participated in Fine Arts in high school and have intention of majoring in Fine Arts (art, choral/instrumental music, theatre) in college. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. Applicant must also submit two letters of recommendation from school officials.

Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors who have participated in the dramatic arts in high school and intend to major in the dramatic arts in college. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. Applicant must also submit two letters of recommendation from school officials.

Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors who have demonstrated citizenship and financial need. Preference given to participants in the forensic program, either by participation in the debate tournament or taking the debate class Consideration also given to applicants who participate in Student Congress and the Model Judiciary Program. Applicant must submit a 500 word essay entitled, “How Has Debate Helped Me Grow and Improve as a Student and Citizen?”

Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors who plan to pursue a career in the mental health field. Two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded (one to a female and one to a male).
☐ Ottobine Student Scholarship $1,000
One scholarship will be awarded to a Turner Ashby High School student who attended Ottobine Elementary School. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need and community involvement. The applicant must possess a grade point average of at least 3.0 and submit a 500 words essay describing how your sense of community has influenced your long-term life goals and plans for the future.
☐ Rick Juarez Memorial Scholarship $2,000
Open to Turner Ashby High School senior who is an active member of the wrestling team. Applicant must provide a short essay to answer the following questions: How has the sport of wrestling helped you achieve your goals off the mat? What has wrestling taught you about yourself? What was the most challenging aspect of wrestling? How did you overcome that obstacle?

Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors. Two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded Applicants must demonstrate financial need, initiative, good character, and be pursuing a degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics at a public university in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors. Applicants must demonstrate hard work and have overcome hardship to be successful. Preference given to applicants who plan to pursue a career in nursing.

Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors. Two $2,000 scholarships to be awarded (one to a female and one to a male). Applicants must demonstrate above average scholarship, athletic participation, character, leadership, and school and community participation. Financial need will be a secondary consideration.
